Our oceans, our responsibility
June 8th was named by the UN in 2009 as World Oceans Day. …
Possible version one:
June 8 is World Oceans Day, and the importance of oceans cannot be overemphasized.
There are abundant biological resources and energy resources in the ocean. Also seafood is a part of people's daily diet. In addition, the ocean plays a crucial role in regulating the global climate.
But now the ocean pollution is getting worse, so it's high time that everyone took action to protect it. Overfishing bans should be imposed in no time. When we go to the beach, don't throw rubbish, especially plastics, into the sea.
In short, to protect the marine environment and ecosystems is to protect us human beings.
Possible version two:
When it comes to ocean, its pollution is becoming more and more serious. World Ocean Day, falling on June 8th, is aimed at raising awareness of ocean conservation.
Ocean plays a key role in our world. Not only does ocean offer us sufficient food, but also it maintains the balance of nature. Thus, it is imperative to protect ocean. First of all, what we can do is to place importance on our daily actions. For example, garbage can’t be thrown into ocean. What’s more, we can also hand out leaflets to call on more people to protect the ocean. The more people are involved, the better the ocean environment is.
All in all, it is high time that we devoted ourselves to protecting ocean. To protect ocean is to protect ourselves.
Possible version three:
Our Oceans,Our Responsibility
There is comprehensive evidence that we humans are not taking good care of the ocean, posing a lot of problems, such as plastic pollution, oil leak, rising sea levels as well as extreme weathers. As a consequence, great importance should be attached to protect our ocean.
Admittedly, intense attention should be paid and tireless efforts be made by people all over the world. Initially, governments need to consider making policies and taking proper measures to to conserve our ocean. In addition, what is of utmost importance is that we individuals should raise our awareness of environment protection, reducing our footprint and living a green lifestyle.
Hopefully, with our joint efforts, we are bound to build an environmental-friendly plant shared by we human being.
Possible version four:
Our Oceans, Our Responsibility
June 8 was officially named by the UN in 2009 as World Ocean Day. It’s a day to stress the importance of ocean and remind people to protect it.
It’s generally acknowledged that ocean plays an important role in many aspects. First of all, with rich biological resources, ocean provides samples for biological science research in terms of the diversity of global biological resources. In addition, its abundant food resources and energy in the ocean make it possible for living things to survive. Equally importantly, the abundant water resurces in the ocean bear the operation of the global water circulation system, which affect or even determine the global climate change. So many benefits does ocean bring to human beings that great importance can’t be attatched enough to protect it.
Of course, it’s everybody’s duty to shoulder this responsibility. For one thing, it’s a good idea to widely study knowledge concerning ocean and think of effective approaches to protect it. For another, let’s stop our bad behabiours which may indirectly pollute ocean. Small things make a big difference. I believe, with our joint effort, a truly green will always surround us.
Possible version five:
Our Oceans,Our Responsibility
Nowadays, it is quite common that oceans are being badly polluted. To have a better life on the earth, we human beings should well protect our oceans for the following reasons.
What comes first is that oceans are where life started and contain abundant species, which means a lot to biodiversity on the earth. Besides, it’s oceans that offer us various resources, such as food, medicine and so on, ensuring the sustainable development of human beings. What's more, oceans have a great effect on world climate because they can take in heat from the sun.
From what's mentioned above, protecting oceans becomes urgent. So let’s take action immediately and protect oceans for the sake of us!

Learning English Beyond the Classroom
There are many things we can do to learn English well. …
Possible version one:
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
There are many things we can do to learn English well. According to a survey, most students being interviewed, specifically 65%,choose to listen to English songs, while half of the students prefer to watch English movics. Those who choose English books and visit English learning websites only account for 18% and 12% respectively.
It turns out that students favor the entertaining ways over the traditional ones when it comes to English learning. However, from my point of view, what benefits students most is reading English books, for it can help students gain a deeper understanding of English as a language. Therefore, students should spare more time for English reading rather than watching movies or listening to music too much.
Possible version two:
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
There are many things we can do to learn English well. A recent survey suggests that the majority of students being interviewed, about 65%, tend to learn English by listening to English songs. 50% of the students choose to watch English movies
as a way of learning. Reading English books and visiting English learning sites prove to be the less popular ways, accounting for 18% and 12% respectively.
Overall, the results are quite interesting, indicating that language learning can be integrated with personal hobbies and entertainment. In the future,I think our school could provide some activities such as book clubs or English corners to further inspire students' interest in learning English.
Possible version three:
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
Nowadays, with the growing popularity of smartphones and computers,an increasing number of students are choosing to learn English beyond the classroom in various ways.
It can easily be seen that the percentage of students who choose listening to English songs and watching English movies is respectively 65% and 50%. However, those choosing reading English books and visiting English learning
websites only account for 18%and 12%.
As far as I'm concerned,it is a disturbing trend. For students, what benefits most to their study is reading English books. Because of their lack of self-discipline,they're more easily addicted to chatting online or playing games. It's urgent for students themselves to improve their self-discipline,and it's also urgent for parents and teachers to strengthen the guidance.
Possible version four:
Recently, our class launched a survey named "Learning English Beyond the Classroom". The results show that most students prefer listening to English songs and watching English movies, while only a few choose to read English books and look through English learning websites.
There is no doubt that English songs and movies can arouse students' interest as well as improve our speaking and listening. But as senior students, reading, writing and grammar are also of great importance . So in my opinion, it’s essential to read English books, especially English classics. Although it sounds a bit boring,
once you are absorbed in a book, you can find the joy. having any questions, you can turn to the English Learning websites.
Hope my advice is helpful to you!
Possible version five:
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
Living in an information era, we have easy and convenient access to various English learning resources. Just as the survey shows, most students have a preference for listening to English songs and watching English movies, accounting for 65% and 5% respectively. While only a small percentage of students learn through reading books and looking through websites, which make up 18% and 12%.
It seems that compared with reading, most students prefer to learn English while enjoying themselves and having a relaxing atmosphere. From my perspective, interest comes first and all of these methods are effective, which not only expose ourselves to a native English atmosphere, but also broaden our horizons and promote our understanding of western cultures.
Just as the saying goes, every road leads to Rome. When it comes to learning English beyond the classroom, choose whatever way that we enjoy.
Learning English Beyond the Classroom
Nowadays, with the development of the society, there are many ways for us to learn English beyond the classroom. As we can see from the table, those who depend on browsing English learning websites and reading English books to learn English are the least, allocating just 12% and 18% respectively; while as many as 65% of people prefer listening to English songs. Besides, 50% of people are fond of watching movies when learning English.
As a high school student, I favor watching movies for the following reasons. First, by watching movies, we are exposed to native English environment, which is especially beneficial to our spoken English. Second, we can learn to express ourselves like natives, helping us form the English thinking mode. Last but not least, seeing movies, we have a good opportunity to know foreign cultures without going abroad.
You can see so many advantages in watching English movies. Therefore, I advocate everybody give it a try when it comes to learning English.

第二節(jié)(滿分25分)
閱讀下面材料,根據(jù)其內(nèi)容和所給段落開頭語續(xù)寫兩段,使之構(gòu)成一篇完整的短文。
It was the day of the big cross-country run. Students from seven different primary schools in and around the small town were warming up and walking the route (路線) through thick evergreen forest.
I looked around and finally spotted David, who was standing by himself off to the side by a fence. He was small for ten years old. His usual big toothy smile was absent today. I walked over and asked him why he wasn’t with the other children. He hesitated and then said he had decided not to run.
What was wrong? He had worked so hard for this event!
I quickly searched the crowd for the school’s coach and asked him what had happened. “I was afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at him,” he explained uncomfortably. “I gave him the choice to run or not, and let him decide.”
I bit back my frustration (懊惱). I knew the coach meant well — he thought he was doing the right thing. After making sure that David could run if he wanted, I turned to find him coming towards me, his small body rocking from side to side as he swung his feet forward.
David had a brain disease which prevented him from walking or running like other children, but at school his classmates thought of him as a regular kid. He always participated to the best of his ability in whatever they were doing. That was why none of the children thought it unusual that David had decided to join the cross-country team. It just took him longer — that’s all. David had not missed a practice, and although he always finished his run long after the other children, he did always finish. As a special education teacher at the school, I was familiar with the challenges David faced and was proud of his strong determination.

Possible version one:
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. I said gently and quietly, “No one can change your mind, except yourself. If you desire to challenge yourself, there is nothing to do with others’ thoughts.” He sat still with a deep breath. “You have a full preparation before this event, which is the most important reason why you show up here”, I added with a sincere tone. Hearing my words, David turned to me tremblingly with tears spilling out of his eyes and expressed he had made a firm determination to finish the cross-country run. His coach heard what David said and gave me a look—the kind that was more determined than anyone else’s.
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. The race started. It seemed that the runway was extremely long for young children, not to mention a child with a heart disease. David insisted on running as if he had forgotten all his weaknesses, though he was tripped over within the a few kilometers. It didn’t take long before he picked himself up again and continued his mission. Classmates all appeared on the racing track, cheering for him. “Come on! You can make it! We are proud of you!” they shouted enthusiastically. To everyone’s joy, he reached the final line and ranked the 20th. It was no more important whether he won the first place or not. It was his brave heart and strong faith that could make something unusual happen finally.
Possible version two:
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn't look at me. Instead his head was jerked sideways. A ripple of sympathy surged through me. I leaned forward, only to find his eyes brimming with tears and his lips were tight. Affectionately, I gathered him to my chest and assured him that he was always my hero for his participation in each practice and final accomplishment of his run. Casting an encouraging smile, I expressed my desire that this run would be no exception. Much to my relief, he nodded in agreement. (82 words)
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. How the way he walked touched me ! Different as it was, it carried more confidence and more courage . To some extent , it represented victory. When the whistle blew ,all players shot like an arrow except David. He lumbered along determinedly, ignoring all doubtful eyes and boos from strangers. It wasn’t long before, however, cheers thundered from the deeply-moved crowd and David finished this run among storms of applause. He finally conquered everyone present and his face was broad with his usual big toothy smile . (86 words)
We sat down next to each other, but David wouldn’t look at me. He ducked his head silently, his hands crossed together. “David, since you have worked hard for the event, why did you decide to quit running ?” I asked in a gentle voice. David still kept silent, without looking at me. “Are you afraid that kids from other schools would laugh at you? If so, I think it’s not necessary to have mean people to prevent you from doing what you want to do. Just be yourself and let it go.” After hearing my encouragement, David looked up at me with a determined look, saying, “I will run with all my effort!”
I watched as David moved up to the starting line with the other runners. I stood on the sidelines with the excited crowd as David moved up to the starting line. No sooner had the starter’s gun shot, David tottered forward with the other kids. Other children rushed forward like an arrow, and David tried his best to keep up with them. But minutes later, the other children disappeared, running through the thick forest. David seemed a little worried. “Come on David! We believe you can do it!” the audience cheered for him. David kept his pace, continuing his running. About 15 minutes later ,the first runners finished the 3000 kilometers race one by one, but I couldn’t see David . Another 15 minutes passed, yet David was still not in sight. I was worried about him. “Is he lost in the thick forest?” Just at that moment, I heard a storm of applause and cheers from the audience. David appeared in front of us, his small body rocking from side to side. Seeing this scene, I felt proud of him, my eyes filled with mist.
