Good afternoon，everyone！The topic of my speech today is “Being a Good Listener”．I would like to share my opinions on why，and how we listen．

To begin with，the reasons why we should learn to listen falls into different directions．The most important one is to promote understanding．When having a conversation，only by catching up what others say can we make a response and improve the efficiency of our talks．In this way，the respect is showed and a better relationship is built up．Being an attentive listener can also narrow the gap between two conflicting sides，such as promoting cooperation between companies and easing the intense atmosphere between couples．

Due to these reasons mentioned above，listening is playing a more essential part in our daily life．Parents listen to their kids for eliminating the generation gap．Not only can it help solve troubles that happen in adolescence，but also it may “update” their parents' minds and understand the young better．Similarly，teachers listen to students to meet their needs for academic or life assistance，thus leading a brighter future for them．Listening is required more often between peers，whom we share the same outlook with．A frequent heart-to-heart talk and listen contributes to building up a firm friendship，dealing with arguments and misunderstanding and making progress together．

In this sense，we should learn to be a good listener．Eye contact and facial expression may be the most apparent signal of attentive listening，so we should not pay much attention to other things around us or be busy with something else while being talked to．In addition，being quite talkative may not be a good suggestion，so just let the other one express what he wants to say completely before making a comment or switching the topic．

With our joint efforts，I believe the conversation will be more effective and the relationship will be tighter．
